In fruit flies, straight wings are dominant and curly wings are recessive. What will the generations look like? Assume that Mend

el’s method of crossing two true breeding parents with opposite traits is followed. Check all that apply.
The P generation has all straight wings.

The P generation has straight wings and curly wings.

The F1 generation has all straight wings.

The F1 generation has all curly wings.

The F1 generation has straight wings and curly wings.

The F2 generation has all straight wings.

The F2 generation has straight wings and curly wings.

Answer:

The correct statements are:

  • The P generation has straight wings and curly wings.
  • The F1 generation has all straight wings.
  • The F2 generation has straight wings and curly wings.

Let us assume W and w be the alleles of the gene responsible for shape of the wings.

W is a dominant allele which leads to the formation of straight wings.

w is a recessive allele which leads to the formation of curly wings when present in homozygous condition.

Now, true breeds of the parents with opposite traits would be WW and ww.

The cross will produce only one type of offspring that is, heterozygous (Ww) dominant. Hence, all the offsprings (F₁ generation) will have straight wings.

Cross-breeding the F₁ generation will result in the formation of three types of genotypes (WW, Ww and ww) in 1:2:1 and two phenotypes (straight wings and curly wings) in 3:1.

How does ATP release energy that's stored within the molecule?
Korvikt [17]

Answer:

Option (D).

Explanation:

ATP (adenotriphosphate) molecules are considered as energy currency of the cells as molecules provide energy for various cellular functions.

The energy is stored in ATPs in two high-energy phosphate bonds, known as phosphoanhydride bonds. This stored energy is released in during hydrolysis of ATP, which involves removal of terminal phosphate groups bound the carbon backbone.

Thus, the correct answer is option (D).
