In general, Buddha statues are considered as the medium to attain the knowledge of Nirvana. Buddha statues can be found different styles in accordance to the Buddhist tradition, poses, hand mudras and so on. These styles also apply to the Nepali Buddha statues and Tibetan Buddha statues. Based on these various styles, Buddha statues are depicted with different meanings behind the statues. In every Buddhist tradition, Buddha statues can be classified according to native Buddhist tradition, hand mudras of the statues, poses of the statues etc.

Even Nepali Buddha statues and Tibetan Buddha statues are found in variety of designs and also show as well as point to important event of Lord Buddha life. Some poses shows the enlightenment attained by Buddha in Bodhgaya, while some shows the event of Lord Buddha meditating. You can see the difference in the styles of Buddha statues if you have proper knowledge on the life of Lord Buddha.

Some Styles of Buddha statues:

*Meditating Buddha

One of the most important poses of Buddha when he was meditating trying to attain the ultimate truth of the life. It is believed that Meditating Buddha statues should be place facing towards east. Many Buddhist monks and disciples of Buddha also use such poses to attain Nirvana.

*Blessing Buddha

Blessing Buddha statues, are mostly referred and depicted in order to show the Lord Buddha providing blessings and bestowing fearlessness and compassion. Blessing Buddha statues are very popular among Nepal Tibet Buddha statues. Blessing Buddha is also depicted in standing position while blessing Buddhist monks.

*Teaching Buddha

Teaching Buddha statues are especially depicted in many tradition of Buddhism such as Buddhism in Nepal, Buddhism in Burma, Buddhism in Thailand and Buddhism in Tibet since teaching is one of the important parts of Buddhism. The placement of hands in teaching Buddha statues are symbols that depicts the teachings of Lord Buddha i.e. Wheel of Dharma.

*Laughing Buddha

Laughing Buddha statues are very popular in Buddhism of China as well as Buddhism in Tibet. It is said that Laughing Buddha statues are the symbols that represents good luck, abundance, fun and happiness.

*Reclining Buddha

Reclining Buddha statues are basically the representation of Lord Buddha attaining Parinirvana i.e. Death of Buddha. Reclining Buddha statues are very popular among senior Buddha statues and there are many Giant reclining Buddha statues all over the world.

Aside of these, some of the important styles of Buddha statues are represented with respect to Five Dhayani Buddhas or Pancha Buddhas in Nepali Buddhism. Each of these five Buddha are associated with direction, color and various other attributes.
