Answer: Absolute Value

Step-by-step explanation:

The | | is a symbol for absolute value. This signifies that the number inside would be positive. Now, this doesn't mean it will always be a number inside absolute value bars. It can also be expressions.

<u>Examples:</u>

|1|: Even though the number inside is a positive 1, we know that it cannot be negative under any circumstances. The only exception would be if there was a negative sign on the outside of the absolute value.

|-1|: We see that there is a -1 in the absolute value. This means that it is actually a 1, not -1. The absolute value is what makes everything inside positive.

|1-5|: To solve this, we know that 1-5=-4. Without the absolute value, the answer -4 would be correct. In this case, we have absolute value, so the answer is actually 4.

|x+2|: x+2 can easily be negative. This would happen is x was a negative number that is smaller than -2. x+2 can also be positive, but the absolute value guarantees that the ending result must be positive.

Write True or False. The transformation is a reflection.<br> True<br> or False
Jet001 [13]

Answer:

False

Step-by-step explanation:

This transformation is a rotation. If it were a reflection the moon shape would be at a 180 degree flip but instead is at a 90 degree rotation.

Hope this helped!

Find the difference. Simplify completely. Please show work.<br><br>1. 7/9 - 3/8 <br>2. 5 4/5 - 2 1/4
fenix001 [56]

1. 7/9 - 3/8 = (7·8 - 9·3)/(9·8) = (56 -27)/72 = 29/72

2. (5 4/5) - (2 1/4) = (5 - 2) + (4/5 - 1/4) = 3 + (4·4 -5·1)/(5·4) = 3 11/20

_____

(a/b) -(c/d) = (ad -bc)/(bd) . . . . a useful formula to remember when working problems like this. It is equivalent to multiplying the first fraction by d/d and the second one by b/b to get a common denominator of bd. Of course if the second fraction is added instead of subtracted, the sign changes in both places.

If f(x) =6x, find f(4)
nasty-shy [4]

So, we are dealing with function notation.

F(x) can be thought of as Y= if it's easier.

So f(4) is what is the output value if X = 4.  So we just plug 4 into the function wherever we see x.

f(x)=6x\\f(4)=6(4)\\f(4)=24
