A girl rolls a ball up an incline and allows it to re- turn to her. For the angle and ball involved, the acceleration of the bal

l along the incline is constant at 0.25g, directed down the incline. If the ball is re- leased with a speed of 4 m /s, determine the distance s it moves up the incline before reversing its direc- tion and the total time t required for the ball to re- turn to the child’s hand.

Answer:

3.28 m

3.28 s

Explanation:

We can adopt a system of reference with an axis along the incline, the origin being at the position of the girl and the positive X axis going up slope.

Then we know that the ball is subject to a constant acceleration of 0.25*g (2.45 m/s^2) pointing down slope. Since the acceleration is constant we can use the equation for constant acceleration:

X(t) = X0 + V0 * t + 1/2 * a * t^2

X0 = 0

V0 = 4 m/s

a = -2.45 m/s^2 (because the acceleration is down slope)

Then:

X(t) = 4*t - 1.22*t^2

And the equation for speed is:

V(t) = V0 + a * t

V(t) = 4 - 2.45 * t

If we equate this to zero we can find the moment where it stops and begins rolling down, that will be the highest point:

0 = 4 - 2.45 * t

4 = 2.45 * t

t = 1.63 s

Replacing that time on the position equation:

X(1.63) = 4 * 1.63 - 1.22 * 1.63^2 = 3.28 m

To find the time it will take to return we equate the position equation to zero:

0 = 4 * t - 1.22 * t^2

Since this is a quadratic equation it will have to answers, one will be the moment the ball was released (t = 0), the other will eb the moment when it returns:

0 = t * (4 - 1.22*t)

t1 = 0

0 = 4 - 1.22*t2

1.22 * t2 = 4

t2 = 3.28 s

A toy train is pushed forward and released at Xi = 4.0 m with a speed of 2.5 m/s. It rolls at a steady speed for 2.0 s, then one
Fittoniya [83]
I don't think that 4m has anything to do with the problem. anyway. here. A___________________B_______C where A is the point that the train was released. B is where the wheel started to stick C is where it stopped From A to B, v=2.5m/s, it takes 2s to go A to B so t=2 AB= v*t = 2.5 * 2 = 5m The train comes to a stop 7.7 m from the point at which it was released so AC=7.7m then BC= AC-AB = 7.7-5 = 2.7m now consider BC v^2=u^2+2as where u is initial speed, in this case is 2.5m/s v is final speed, train stop at C so final speed=0, so v=0 a is acceleration s is displacement, which is BC=2.7m substitute all the number into equation, we have 0^2 = 2.5^2 + 2*a*2.7 0 = 6.25 + 5.4a a = -6.25/5.4 = -1.157 so acceleration is -1.157m/(s^2)

An ant crawls along a sidewalk with a velocity of 0.1 m/s in a direction that is 45 degrees relative to the edge of the sidewalk
ahrayia [7]

Answer:

C) 1.0 m

Explanation:

The component of the velocity parallel to the sidewalk is:

vₓ = v cos θ

vₓ = 0.1 m/s cos 45°

vₓ = 0.0707 m/s

The distance traveled after 14 seconds is:

d = vₓ t

d = (0.0707 m/s) (14 s)

d = 0.99 m

Closest answer is C) 1.0 m.

Define these terms about speed and state their units
speed
distance covered
time taken
Neporo4naja [7]

Explanation:

Speed is the rate of change of distance with time. It is a scalar quantity with magnitude both no direction.

 Speed = \frac{distance}{time}

The unit is m/s or km/hr or mile/hr

Distance covered is simply the length of the path traveled.

The unit is m or km or miles

Time taken is the duration of an event.

 The unit is seconds or minutes or hour.
