answer:

k = 10

step-by-step explanation:

objective: get k by itself on one side of the equal sign

1. distribute the 10 to (k - 9) by multiplying these values by the outside value

10 × k = 10k

10 × -9 = -90

new equation: 10 = 10k - 90

2. get rid of 90 by doing the opposite (so we add 90) and what we do on one side we do to the other

(10k - 90) + 90 = 10k (90 cancels out)

10 + 90 = 100

new equation: 100 = 10k

3. get k by itself by dividing by 10 - since 10 is being multiplied by we need to get rid of it by doing its opposite (division) and doing this on both sides

10k ÷ 10 = k (the 10 cancels out)

100 ÷ 10 = 10

new equation: 10 = k

is k by itself? yes so k is equal to 10

Let A = {1, 2, 3, 4}, B = {3, 4, 5, 6}, and C = {5, 6, 7, 8}. Find each of the following sets. (Enter your answers in set-roster
cluponka [151]

Answer:

(a) {1, 2, 5, 6}

(b) {3, 4, 7, 8}

(c) {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8}

(d) {1, 2, 7, 8}

Step-by-step explanation:

Given sets,

A = {1, 2, 3, 4}, B = {3, 4, 5, 6} and C = {5, 6, 7, 8},

(a) Since, A Δ B = (A\B)∪(B\A) = all elements of A\B and B\A

∵ A\B = elements of set A which are not in B

= {1, 2}

And, B\A = {5, 6}

So, A Δ B = {1, 2, 5, 6}

(b) B\C = {3, 4},

C\B = {7, 8}

⇒ B Δ C = (B\C)∪(C\B) = {3, 4, 7, 8}

(c) A\C = {1, 2, 3, 4},

C\A = {5, 6, 7, 8},

⇒ A Δ C = (A\C)∪(C\A) = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8}

(d) (A Δ B)\C = {1, 2}

C\(A Δ B) = {7, 8}

A Δ C = ((A Δ B)\C)∪(C\(A Δ B)) = {1, 2, 7, 8}
