The position "d" of a bicyclist (measured in kilometers) is a linear function of time "t" (measured in minutes). At time t=6 min

utes, the position is d=5 km. If the bicyclists travels at 2 km for every 5 minutes, find the position of the bicyclist at t=8 minutes.

Answer:

Position of the bicyclists is 5.8 km.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the equation of a linear function representing this situation is d = mt + c

Where m = slope of the line representing the function or rate of change in distance

Now rate of change of distance of velocity of the bicyclists m = \frac{2}{5}=0.40 km per minutes

when we plot distance and time at x and y axis

At time t = 0 distance traveled by the bicyclist = 0

At time t = 6 minutes distance traveled d = 5 km

So at this point coordinates of the bicyclist will be (6, 5).

Similarly at t = 8 minutes coordinates will be (8, y)

Now we know slope m = \frac{y-y'}{x-x'}

Now we plug in the values in the formula of slope.

\frac{2}{5}=\frac{y-5}{8-6}

2×2 = 5(y - 5)

4 = 5y - 25

5y = 4 + 25 = 29

y = \frac{29}{5}=5.8 km

Therefore, at t = 8 minutes position of the bicyclist is 5.8 km.

The sum of the arithmetic progression 4, ..., 76 is 1920. Find the number of terms and the common difference.
valkas [14]

<u>Number of terms = 48</u>

<u>common difference = 1.5</u>

This question involves the concept of Arithmetic Progression.

  • The formula for sum of an arithmetic progression series with first and last term given is;

S_{n} = \frac{n}{2}(a + l)

where;

a = first term

l = last term

n = number of terms

  • From the given sequence, we see that;

first term; a = 4

last term; l = 76

Sum of A.P; S_{n} = 1920

  • Plugging in relevant values into the sum of an AP formula, we have;

1920 = \frac{n}{2}(4 + 76)

simplifying this gives;

1920 = 40n

n = 1920/40

n = 48

  • Formula for nth term of an AP is;

t_{n} = a_{1} + (n - 1)d

where;

a_{1} is first term

d is common difference

n is number of term

t_{n} is the nth term in question

the 48th term is 76

Thus;

76 = 4 + (48 - 1)d

76 - 4 = 47d

72 = 47d

d = 72/47

d ≈ 1.5

Thus;

Number of terms = 48

common difference = 1.5

I bought my flat last year for £40,000. The value of my flat increased by 12% in September and then by a further 10%in January t
Leya [2.2K]
The answer is: <span>40,000(1.12)(1.10)

Or 4 more understanding: 12% of £40000
</span>1%= 400, therefore, 12%= 4800.
In January, the value was £44800.
10% of this is £448.
Add £448 to £44800, giving you £45, 248
