Why does the male parent's genes determine the sex of the baby?
Julli [10]
Consider this:

Each parent has two sex chromosomes.
The mother, as a female, has chromosomes XX.
The father, a male, has XY.

The mother will pass on one sex chromosome to the baby, as will the father.
The mother can only pass on an X.
The father, however, has a 50/50 chance of passing on an X or Y.
XX would make a female and XY would make a male.

Simply put, the sex chromosome from your mother is fixed, it's going to be an X no matter what. It's which sex chromosome your father passes on that determines your sex.

What is the potential energy in the thylakoid membrane used for?
liubo4ka [24]

The right answer is to perform photosynthesis (more precisely to convert ADP to ATP by ATP synthase).

Light comes to us in the form of photons. These photons have a different energy potential depending on their wavelength.

When a pigment picks up a photon corresponding to its absorption capacity, one of its electrons goes into the excited state. This energy can be transmitted in 3 ways: either by spreading it in the form of photon or heat; both ways lose energy. The third is to transmit resonance energy and there is almost no loss of energy.

A photosystem consists of a reaction center and a collector antenna to optimize the absorption of photons triggering photochemical reactions in order to operate the ATP synthase to produce ATP in the presence of a hydrogen gradient.

What results would you expect from a biuret test of steak solution?
creativ13 [48]

Answer:

A positive result.

Explanation:

Biuret test is a test performed to check whether proteins are present in a given sample or not. If the solution changes its colour to violet then it means that the sample contains proteins. If the colour is not changed to violet, then the result would be negative and protein would not be present in the sample.

Steaks contain a rich amount of protein. Hence, when Biuret test is performed for a steak solution, the results will be positive. The steak sample would change colour to violet.
