Cost of stock:  50 shares × $17 per share = $850

Commission is 2% of 850 = .02 × 850 = $17

Total is $867

I would say the 60 + 20 represents how the shirts cost the same amount. Then I would say the x either represents the cost before tax or how to find the cost of the shirts.
