Let the number of students who are in the play be 'x'

Total number of students = 28

So number of students who are not in the play are 28 - x

The ratio of number of student in a play to the number of students not in the play = 2 : 5

\frac{x}{28 - x} = \frac{2}{5}

Cross multiply

5x = 2(28 - x)

5x = 56 - 2x

Add + 2x on both sides, we get

5x + 2x = 56 - 2x + 2x

7x = 56

Divide both side by 7, to find x

\frac{7x}{7} = \frac{56}{7}

x = 8

So number of students who are in the play = 8

And number of students who are not in the play = 28 - x = 28- 8 = 20

Ms. Jones bought a box with 8 packages of felt paper for her class. The total box of paper was priced at $40. If she buys the pa
stellarik [79]

Answer:

$4

Step-by-step explanation:

To answer, we have to find the base unit of how much each package would cost out of a box. To do this, we divide the total amount of the box of paper by how many packages were inside:

40 / 8 = 5

So, each package costed Ms. Jones $5, while the single packages cost $5.50, so Ms. Jones saved $0.50 per package she bought, which if you multiply by 8, you get 4, so Ms. Jones saved a total of $4.

Hope this helps :)

What are all of the real roots of the following polynomial? f(x) = x4 - x3 - 13x2 + x + 12
leonid [27]

We can find roots by setting f(x) = 0 --> x^4 - x^3 - 13x^2 + x + 12 = 0.

Factoring f(x) to make things easier for us gives us (x - 1)(x + 1)(x - 4)(x + 3), which, equal to 0, gives us the ability to set each set of parentheses = 0.

x - 1 = 0 gives us x = 1.

x + 1 = 0 --> x = -1.

x - 4 = 0 --> x = 4.

x + 3 = 0 --> x = -3.

our roots are x = 1, -1, 4, and -3.
