They would trick the natives into thinking they were their friends and trade useless stuff to them for highly valuable items and make profit off of that and build the colonies economy slowly but surely they also when realized the natives were a threat they took blankets and covered them in small pox and wiped out a majority of the first nations in that land so it was very easy to settle in
