You must first combine like terms. Like terms means the numbers with the same variables must be combined. In this case those two numbers are 5x and -x, since they both have the variable x attached.

You can combine these variables two different ways. Both will get you the same answer.

Method 1:

5x + (-x) ---> 4x

^^^Keep in mind that -x means the same thing as -1x. The one is just invisible.

Another way to write this is:

5x + (-1x) ---> 4x

Method 2:

5x - 1x ---> 4x

Now that you combined like terms you have the new equation:

4x = 28

Now you must divide 4 to both sides to isolate x. Since 4 is being multiplied by x, division (the opposite of multiplication) will cancel 4 out (in this case it will make 4 one) from the left side and bring it over to the right side.

4x ÷ 4 = 28 ÷ 4

x = 7

Check:

5(7) - 7 = 28

35 - 7 = 28

28 = 28

Hope this helped!

Step-by-step explanation:

5x-x=28\qquad (x=1x)\\\\5x-1x=28\qquad\text{combine like terms}\\\\(5-1)x=28\\\\4x=28\qquad\text{divide both sides by 4}\\\\\dfrac{4x}{4}=\dfrac{28}{4}\\\\x=7

BRAINLIST AND 30 POINTS
svetlana [45]

Answer:

1/16

Step-by-step explanation:

So if you want to divide an amount equally, you divide the numbers. In this scenario, what you would do is this:

1/2 needs to be split 8 times

(1/2)/8

If you have something like this where the numerator is a fraction, then you multiply 2x8. that gives you 16, so now you add the 1 on top and you get 1/16.

Mila graphs the point A
melamori03 [73]
Answers:
B. <span>The x-coordinate of point A is 5.
</span>E. <span>Point A is on the x-axis.
</span>
Explanation:
Any point drawn on the coordinates has the general notation of (x,y).
The given point is (5,0). This means that:
The x-coordinate of the point is 5
The y-coordinate of the point is 0

Now, let's check the place of this point.
The x-coordinate of the point is 5. This means that we will move 5 points to the right of the origin on the x-axis
The y-coordinate of the point is 0. This means that we will not move along the y-axis which means that the point stays on the x-axis.

Now, comparing the deduced results with the given choices, we will find that the correct choices are B and E

Hope this helps :)

Factorize: Challenge problem:<br> x^2+19x+78<br> help :)
Trava [24]

Answer:

(x + 6)(x + 13)

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

x² + 19x + 78

Consider the factors of the constant term (+ 78) whuch sum to give the coefficient of the x- term (+ 19)

The factors are + 6 and + 13 , since

6 ×13 = + 78 and 6 + 13 = + 19 , then

x² + 19x + 78 = (x + 6)(x + 13) ← in factored form

Answer:

  (a) 315°

  (b) 3°

  (c) 238°

Step-by-step explanation:

Bearings are measured clockwise from north. The triangle described is illustrated in the attachment.

<h3>(a)</h3>

The bearing of P from R is 180° different from the bearing of R from P it will be ...

  135° +180° = 315° . . . . bearing of P from R

__

<h3>(b)</h3>

The bearing of Q from R is 48° more than the bearing of P from R, so is ...

  315° +48° = 363°, or 3° . . . . bearing of Q from R

__

<h3>(c)</h3>

The angle QPR has a value that makes the sum of angles in the triangle equal to 180°. It is ...

  180° -48° -55° = 77°

The bearing of Q from P is 77° less than the bearing of R from P, so is ...

  135° -77° = 58°

As above, the reverse bearing from Q to P is ...

  58° +180° = 238° . . . . bearing of P from Q
