Answer:

We are to find x and y in this equation.

5x+4y= -20.

- 5x+12y= -10.

which is y=5/4 or 1.25.

then substitute y=1.25 into eqtn I.

5x+4(1.25)=-20.

5x+5= -20.

5x=-20-5.

5x= -25.

x= -5.

Explain plz so I can understand.
olchik [2.2K]
Okay so you are going to really just add 30 + 9 here and that means you have 30 tens and 9 ones or a 30 in the tens place and a 9 in the ones place.

I hope i broke that down well enough.

I hope this helped :)

A building is 5 feet tall. the base of the ladder is 8 feet from the building. how tall must a ladder be to reach the top of the
iris [78.8K]

The ladder must be 9.4 ft to reach the top of the building

Here, we want to get the length of the ladder that will reach the top of the building

Firstly, we need a diagrammatic representation

We have this as;

As we can see, we have a right triangle with the hypotenuse being the length of the ladder

We simply will make use of Pythagoras' theorem which states that the square of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the two other sides

Thus, we have;

\begin{gathered} x^2=5^2+8^2 \\ x^2=\text{ 25 + 64} \\ x^2\text{ = 89} \\ x=\text{ }\sqrt[]{89} \\ x\text{ = 9.4 ft} \end{gathered}

What are the zeros of the function f(x) = x2 + 8x + 4, expressed in simplest radical form?
KonstantinChe [14]

Answer:

x = - 4 ± 2\sqrt{3}

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

f(x) = x² + 8x + 4

To find the zeros, let f(x) = 0, that is

x² + 8x + 4 = 0 ( subtract 4 from both sides )

x² + 8x = - 4

Using the method of completing the square

add (half the coefficient of the x- term )² to both sides

x² + 2(4)x + 16 = - 4 + 16

(x + 4)² = 12 ( take the square root of both sides )

x + 4 = ± \sqrt{12} = ± 2\sqrt{3} ( subtract 4 from both sides )

x = - 4 ± 2\sqrt{3}
