The 40th parallel of north latitude runs across the United States through Philadelphia, Indianapolis, and Denver. At this latitu

de, Earth’s radius is about 3030 miles. The earth rotates with an angular velocity of LaTeX: \frac{\pi}{12} π 12 radians (or 15°) per hour toward the east. If a jet flies due west with the same angular velocity relative to the ground at the equinox, the Sun as viewed from the jet will stop in the sky. How fast in miles per hour would the jet have to travel west at the 40th parallel for this to happen? Show your work and explain your process.

Answer:

793.25 mi/hr

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that:

The radius of the earth is = 3030 miles

The angular velocity = \dfrac{\pi}{12} rads

If a jet flies due west with the same angular velocity relative to the ground at the equinox;

We are  to determine the How fast in miles per hour would the jet have to travel west at the 40th parallel for this to happen.

NOW;

Distance s is expressed by the relation

s = rθ

s = 3030(\frac{\pi}{12} )

s = 793.25

The speed which depicts how fast in miles per hour the jet would have traveled is :

speed (v) = \frac{s}{t}

v = \frac{793.25}{1}

v = 793.25 mi/hr

Hence, the jet would have traveled 793.25 mi/hr due west at the  40th parallel for this to happen.

Around 1,100 scientists live in Antarctica during the winter. In the summer that number increases to around 5,000 scientists. As
Blababa [14]

Answer:

<h3> 78%</h3>

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

Number of scientist that line in Antarctica during the winter = 1,100

Amount of scientist  in the summer = 5,000

Increment = 5000 - 1100

Increment  = 3900

percentage change = Increment/Original amount * 100

Percentage change = 3900/5000 * 100

Percentage change = 3900/50

Percentage change = 78%

<em>Hence the percent change in the number of scientists living in Antarctica is 78%</em>

Zielflug [23.3K]

Answer:

The 90% confidence interval using Student's t-distribution is (9.22, 11.61).

Step-by-step explanation:

Since we know the sample is not big enough to use a z-distribution, we use student's t-distribution instead.

The formula to calculate the confidence interval is given by:

\bar{x}\pm t_{n-1} \times s/\sqrt{n}

Where:

\bar{x} is the sample's mean,

t_{n-1} is t-score with n-1 degrees of freedom,

s is the standard error,

n is the sample's size.

This part of the equation is called margin of error:

s/\sqrt{n}

We know that:

n=28

\bar{x}=10.41

degrees of freedom = 27

1-\alpha = 0.90 \Rightarrow \alpha = 0.10

t_{n-1} = 1.703

s = 3.71

Replacing in the formula with the corresponding values we obtain the confidence interval:

\bar{x}\pm t_{n-1} \times s/\sqrt{n} = 10.41 \pm 1.70 \times 3.71/\sqrt{28} = (9.22, 11.61)
