The macrophages and the white blood cells in the body helps in the removal of bacteria from the body. There are several steps by which the bacterium and virus are killed by the process of phagocytosis.
Firstly the phagocyte approaches the bacteria and the the phagocytic vesicle fuses with the lysosomes.
Then the phagocyte engulfs the bacterium forming a phagocytotic vesicle. In this way the bacterium is killed by the phagocyte.
