 a² + 8a - 20 = a² + 2*4*a - 20 = a² + 8a + 16 -16 - 20 = (a + 4)² - 36 = (a + 4)² - 6² = (a + 4 - 6)(a + 4 + 6) = (a - 2)(a + 10)
