The value of required two numbers x and y are 7 and -4 respectively. These values are find out using Elimination method.
Let the required first number and second numbers be x and y respectively .
We have given that, one Number is more than other by 11
i.e., the difference of two numbers is equal to 11
x - y = 11. …..(1)
And twice the sum of the two numbers is 6 i.e.,
2(x + y) = 6 => 2x + 2y = 6 => x +y = 3 …….(2)
Now , equation (1) and (2) are linear equation with two variables x and y .
We shall solve above two equations and find out the value of two variables. Using Elimination method , In which value of one variable is find out by eliminate the second variable through their coefficient comparison.
Added the equation ( 1) and (2) we get, 2x = 14 => x = 7
Put the value of x in equation (1) we get,
7 – y = 11 => y = -4
Thus, we get the values of two variables x and y is 7 and -4 respectively.
