The state fair is a popular field trip destination. This year the senior class at High School A and the senior class at High Sch

ool B both planned trips there. The senior class at High School A rented and filled 1 van and 10 buses with 258 students. High School B rented and filled 8 vans and 5 buses with 264 students. Each van and each bus carried the same number of students. How many students can a van carry? How many students can a bus carry?

Answer: There are 18 students in a van and 24 students in a bus.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the number of students in the van be 'x' and the number of students in bus be 'y'.

Then, According to the question, we have the following system

\text{[High School A ]}\ x+10y=258........................(1)\\\\\text{[High School B ]}\ 8x+5y=264........................................(2)\\

Multiply 2 to both the sides of equation (2), we get

16x+10y=528.......................(3)

Subtract equation (1) from equation (3), we get

15x=270\\\Rightarrow\ x=\frac{270}{15}\\\Rightarrow\ x=18

Substitute value of x in (1), we get

18+10y=258\\\Rightarrow\ 10y=240\\\Rightarrow\ y=24

Hence, there are 18 students in a van and 24 students in a bus.

Fantom [35]

Answer: 250 cameras; $10,000 spent; 15,000 made

Step-by-step explanation:

1) FInd the profit. 60-40=20. This means that they make a profit of $20 per camera.

2) How many cameras to break even? 5000/20=250. The answer is 250 cameras!

3) How much money has been spent? 40x250= $10000 spent.

4) How much money has been made? 60x250= $15000 made.

What is the area of the given figure?
kirza4 [7]

\huge\boxed{192\ \text{in}^2}

There are three parts to this figure: a rectangle and two triangles that are congruent.

We'll add together the area for each to get the total area.

We'll start by finding the area of the rectangle. We don't know its length, so we need to find the bases of the triangles and add them together.

We know that a^2+b^2=c^2. Substitute and solve for a:

\begin{aligned}a^2+6^2&=10^2\\a^2+36&=100\\a^2+36-36&=100-36\\a^2&=64\\\sqrt{a^2}&=\sqrt{64}\\a&=8\end{aligned}

Now, double this to get the total length of the rectangle, which is 16 inches.

The area of the rectangle is equal to its length times its height:

16\cdot9=\underline{144}

Now, we'll find the area of one of the triangles and double it since they're congruent.

The area of a triangle is one-half of its base times its height, which we then double.

2\left(\frac{1}{2}\cdot b\cdot h\right)

The 2 and the \frac{1}{2} cancel each other out.

b\cdot h

Substitute and solve:

8\cdot6=\underline{48}

Finally, add the rectangle's area to the two triangles' area.

144+48=\boxed{192}
