Influence of English language by Roman Language:

Latin influenced the English language both directly and indirectly but the major lasting influence is indirect. The biggest indirect influence occurred after the Normans invaded England. Normans spoke French a descended from Latin which was deemed a romance language. In addition, the old English borrowed some terms from Latin and that is the direct influence.

Another notable influence is in science and academia; most terms are in Latin language and they remained unchanged until today. Also during the Norman and Roman invasion, Latin was the language used by the Roman Catholic Church; the only Christian Church at that time.

Why did some colonists smuggle goods in the 1760s
Alex73 [517]

Some colonists resorted to smuggling because it offered a way they could avoid the restrictions placed on trade by the British. Restrictions were placed on what the colonies could manufacture, whose ships they could use, and most importantly, with whom they could trade.

British merchants wanted American colonists to buy British goods, not French, Spanish, or Dutch products. In theory Americans would pay duties on imported goods to discourage this practice. The Navigation Act and Molasses Act were just two examples of royal attempts to restrict colonial trade.

Smuggling is the way the colonists ignored these restrictions.
