The following procedure was used to determine the volume of a flask. The flask was weighed dry and then filled with water. If th

e masses of the empty flask and filled flask were 56.12 g and 87.39 g, respectively, and the density of water is 0.9976 g/cm^3, calculate the volume of the flask in cubic centimeters.

Answer:

31.345 cm³

Explanation:

Given:

Mass of the empty flask, m = 56.12 g

Mass of  the flask filled with water, M = 87.39 g

Density of the water, ρ = 0.9976 g/cm³

now,

the mass of water filled in the flask, Mw = M - m = 87.39 - 56.12 = 31.27 g

also,

Density = mass / volume

thus, for water

0.9976 = 31.27 / volume

or

volume of water = 31.345 cm³

hence, the volume of flask is the volume of water filled = 31.345 cm³

Which of the following would be expected to be good solvents for cyclopentane. Choose all that apply. toluene, CgH5CH3 cyclohexa
Alik [6]

Answer:

cyclohexane

Explanation:

Solubility is determined by the principle ,  "like dissolves like" .

i.e. , if a compound is polar then it will dissolve in a polar compound only , and

if a compound is non - polar then it will dissolve in a non - polar compound only .

Hence , from the question ,

a good solvent for cyclopentane would be cyclohexane ,

since , both the compounds are non polar in nature , hence get solubilized ,

the other options mentioned are polar .

Select the correct answer. if two half-lives have passed since a scientist collected a 1.00-gram sample of u-235, how much u-235
Ugo [173]

Answer:

0.25 g of U-235 isotope will left .

Formula used :

where,

N = amount of U-235 left after n-half lives = ?

= Initial amount of the U-235 = 1.00 g

n = number of half lives passed = 2

0.25 g of U-235 isotope will left .

20 L of nitrogen gas are collected at a temperature of 50°C and 2 atm. How many grams of nitrogen gas were collected?
Andreas93 [3]

Answer:

0.1077 grams

Explanation:

First we will employ the ideal gas law to determine the number of moles of nitrogen gas.

PV=nRT

P=2 atm

V=20L

R=0.08206*L*atm*mol^-1*K^-1

T=323.15 K

Thus, 2atm*20L=n*0.08206*L*atm*mol^-1*K^-1*323.15K

K, atm, and L cancels out. Thus n=2*20mol/0.08206*323.15=1.5 moles

Lastly, we must convert the number of moles to grams. This can be done by dividing the number of moles by the molar mass of nitrogen gas, which is 14 grams.

1.5/14=0.1077 grams
