In 1610, John Rolfe arrived at Jamestown. He brought seeds of tobacco from the West Indies to seed in Virginia's plantations. So he started the business of Tobacco in Virginia and the experiment was a complete success to the degree that the crops were so good that tobacco production was exported. By the way, Rolfe married an Indian American named Pocahontas.
