Sodium hydroxide is used extensively in acid-base titrations because it is a strong, inexpensive base. A sodium hydroxide soluti

on was standardized by titrating 38.87 mL of 0.1994 M standard hydrochloric acid. The initial buret reading of the sodium hydroxide was 1.16 mL, and the final reading was 36.18 mL. What was the molarity of the base solution?

Answer: The molarity of the base solution is 0.22 M.

Explanation:

According to the neutralization law,

n_1M_1V_1=n_2M_2V_2

where,

M_1 = molarity of HCl solution = 0.1994 M

V_1 = volume of HCl solution = 38.87 ml

M_2 = molarity of NaOH solution = ?

V_2 = volume of NaOH solution = Final reading - Initial reading = 36.18 - 1.16 = 35.02 ml

n_1 = valency of HCl = 1

n_2 = valency of NaOH = 1

1\times 0.1994\times 38.87=1\times M_2\times 35.02

M_2=0.22M

Therefore, the molarity of the base solution is 0.22 M.

If 1.320 moles of CH4 reacts completely with oxygen, how many grams of H2O can be formed
laiz [17]

Answer:

47.5 g of water can be formed

Explanation:

This is the reaction:

CH₄  +  2O₂  →  CO₂ + 2H₂O

Methane combustion.

In this process 1 mol of methane react with 2 moles of oxygen to produce 2 moles of water and 1 mol of carbon dioxide.

As ratio is 1:2, I will produce the double of moles of water, with the moles of methane I have.

1.320 mol  .2 = 2.64 moles

Now, we can convert the moles to mass (mol . molar mass)

2.64 mol . 18g/mol = 47.5 g

What material makes up ash and pumice?
slamgirl [31]

Pumice rocks are formed due to the air that is trapped in between the rocks, a body of magma spurting out with dissolved gas under pressure. As the magma cracks through the Earth’s surface, the sudden pressure drop causes the gas to come out of the solution. The flash of gas form the vent slices the magma and blows it out as a molten lather. The lather hastily solidifies as it flies into the air and falls back to Earth as pieces of pumice.

What is best way to get salt out of salt water solution
Vlad1618 [11]

Answer:

The "simple" hurdle that must be overcome to turn seawater into freshwater is to remove the dissolved salt in seawater. That may seem as easy as just boiling some seawater in a pan, capturing the steam and condensing it back into water (distillation).
