Let w bet the number of white cars and y the numbers of yellow cars.
"Rafael counted a total of 40 white and yellow cars" So w+y = 40.
"There were 9 times as many white cars as yellow cars" So 9Y = W

We get the system:
w+y=40 (1)
9y=w (2)

In equation (1), let's replace w by it's value from equation (2) since w=9y.
We get: 9y+y = 40
10y=40
y=4
So there's 4 yellow cars.

In equation (1), let's replace y by it's value
w+4=40
w=40-4
w=36

Rafael counted 36 white cars.

You can re-check your answer:
4+36=40 (w+y=40)
9*4=36 (9y=w)
The answer has been approved.

Hope this Helps! :)

200 + 10x = 120 + 15x now solve the equation to find x, the number of hours that both companies will charge the same ammount
torisob [31]

Answer:

16

Step-by-step explanation:

Given the equation, 200 + 10x = 120 + 15x, let's solve for x as follows,

Subtract 200 from both sides

200 + 10x - 200 = 120 + 15x - 200

10x = - 80 + 15x

Subtract 15x from both sides

10x - 15x = - 80 + 15x - 15x

-5x = - 80

Divide both sides by -5

\frac{-5x}{-5} = \frac{-80}{5}

x = 16

How much total wrapping paper does it take to wrap two gifts: one with the dimensions of 6 cm by 10 cm by 9.5 cm and the other w
zhuklara [117]

Answer:

gift 1:

424 cm^2

570 cm^3

gift 2:

1420.5 cm^2

3622.5 cm^3

Step-by-step explanation:

We have to calculate the surface area of these gifts in order to know the amount of wrapping paper.

The formula for the surface area is:

A = 2*ab + 2*ac + 2*bc

Gift 1:

A = 2*6*10 + 2*6*9.5 + 2*10*9.5

A = 424 cm^2

That means that gift 1 needs 424 cm^2 of wrapping paper

Gift 2:

A = 2*14*17.25 + 2*14*15 + 2*17.25*15

A = 1420.5 cm^2

That means that gift 2 needs 1420.5 cm^2 of wrapping paper

Now, to calculate the cubic centimeters of packaging peanuts, we calculate the volume, the volume has as formula:

V = a*b*c

Gift 1:

V = 6*10*9.5

V = 570 cm^3

This means that gift 1 needs 570 cm^3 of packaging peanuts

Gift 2:

V = 14*17.25*15

V = 3622.5 cm^3

That means that gift 2 needs 3622.5 cm^3 of packaging peanuts

Assuming you want to find x?
You know that the angles at C and B have to be the same (6x) because it’s an isosceles triangle (as indicated by the lines going through AC and AB), and angles in a triangle add to 180*

So 3x + 6x + 6x = 180*
15x = 180*
x = 180*/15
x = 12*
