Stretch before swimming as to protect her muscles. Some safety precautions to take would be having proper equiptment such as goggles and/or nose/ear plugs. Since it's a public pool, if she is under 18 it would be a good idea to have parental guidance while at the pool as well as making sure there is a lifeguard on duty.
