I believe the answer is: it is essential to evaluate credentials, credibility, relevance, and quality of research for each source you consider.

People who had credentials would put their career on risk if they dare to give misinformation regarding the topic in their expertise field. (they could face both fines or prison time)  Because of this, most of them are generally trustworthy. Information regarding this credential usually could be obtained on product's site.
