-3m - 6 = 18
-18 -6 = 3m
-24 = 3m
-24/3 = m
-8 = m

So, First I moved the -3m to the other side so that it would be positive.
Remember that when solving these equations, the purpose is to leave the letter by itself, so we leave 3m by itself by moving it to the other side and uniting the terms that are alike.
18 becomes -18 as I move it to the left side and -6 stays the same because it doesn't move.

You remember that when there are 2 negatives you add them because they have the same sign, and you leave the sign of the greatest number, so it stays "-".

Then, you simply divide -24/3 = m and you get that -8 = m.

What are the solutions to this quadratic equation x2+6x-5=0
marishachu [46]

Answer:

See Below.

Explanation:

Quadratic Form:

a {x}^{2}  + bx + c

Quadratic Formula:

x =  \frac{ - b +   -  \sqrt{ {b}^{2}  - 4ac} }{2a}

Based on the information given from the question, we can deduce:

a = 1

b = 6

c = -5

Now we can substitute all these values into the formula to find x.

x =   \frac{ - 6 +  -  \sqrt{ {6}^{2}  - 4(1)( - 5)} }{2(1)}  \\  =   - 3 +  \sqrt{14}   \: or \:  - 3 -  \sqrt{14}

Write a simplified polynomial expression in standard form to represent the area of the rectangle below.
JulijaS [17]
Given:
Rectangle shape.
One side: 5x + 2
other side: x - 4

Area = length * width
Area = (5x+2)(x-4)
A = 5x(x-4) +2(x-4)
A = 5x² - 20x + 2x - 8
A = 5x² - 18x - 8
