Answer:

4 and 14

Step-by-step explanation:

:the sum of two numbers is 18" can be written as

 x + y = 18               let x represent the first number, and y the second

"twice the first number increased by three times the second number equals 40" can be written as

2x + 3y = 40

Now solve this system. Using elimination will probably be the easier method...

1.   x +  y = 18

2.  2x + 3y = 40

Multiply equation 1 by -2 so the x variable will be the opposite of the x variable on equation 2.

1.  -2x - 2y = -36

2.  2x  + 3y = 40

Now add the equations together, cancelling out 'x'

y  = 4     ( 2x + (-2x) = 0, so 'x' is gone, 3y + (-2y) = y, 40 + (-36) = 4)

Since y = 4, plug that into either equation 1 or 2 and solve for x

1.  x + 4 = 18     (y becomes 4)

     x = 14        (subtract 4 on both sides to isolate 'x')

What is 265 times 14.? Explain what you did.
AysviL [449]

Answer:

3710

Step-by-step explanation:

265 * 14

multiply 4 by 5, then 4 by 6, then 4 by 2 which would look like this 860

then you multiply 1 by 5, then 1 by 6, then 1 by 2 which should loo like 2650

it looks like that because for every digit you multiply by except the first you add a zero in front of it. then you add those two up which adds up to 3710 you're welcome. :}

Please help me! Please! I am so lost! Pythagorean Theorem!
Ket [755]

Answer:

Part A- yes, because all 3 sides are Equal (each side is 5)

Part B- yes, each rectangle has the dimensions 12*5

Part C- yes- since the sides are 5 and 12 you can determine that the diagonal is 13, using they Pythagorean theorem a^{2} +b^{2} =c^{2}

5^{2} +12^{2} =13^{2} \\25+144=169- true statement, so the lateral sides are rectangles, because the corners are 90

Part D-  4\sqrt{2} (it is a 45-45-90 triangle- so the hypotenuse is the side length times \sqrt{2}

Part E- the diagonal face as the largest area- dimensions are 4\sqrt{2} * 12\\

the area would be 48\sqrt{2}
