The oxygen atom is electronegative and it tends to attract more electrons to itself, there is unequal sharing of electrons which make the oxygen slightly negatively charged and hydrogen slightly positively charged, making it polar molecules I.e unlike charges attract each other.Electrons in the covalent bond spend more time around oxygen atom and less around hydrogen atoms.
