I have not done this in a while but this is the best explanation I could get.  ideas to another wave. The same applies to sound and light. We know the Doppler effect is relevant in the context of sound waves when the source is moving. Therefore, in the context of light (EM waves), the frequency of observed light should be different to the emitted frequency when the source of the light is moving relative to the observer.
