How is the process of carbon fixation in CAM plants different from the process in C3 and C4 plants? a. CAM plants require a larg

er exchange of gases in the atmosphere than C3 and C4 plants. b. CAM plants are better adapted for moist, low light areas than C3 and C4 plants. c. CAM plants conserve water by allowing transpiration to occur at night rather than the day like it does with C3 and C4 plants. d. All of the above

Answer:

The correct answer would be option C.

Plants evolved different methods to prevent or reduce the effects of photorespiration.

The C3 plants are the most common plants which do not have any special methods or physiology to prevent photorespiration.

The C4 are the plants in which carbon fixation and the Calvin cycle takes place in different cells. Carbon is fixed in the mesophyll cells with the help of PEP carboxylase enzyme. It fixes carbon and converts PEP into oxaloacetate. The Calvin cycle takes place in the bundle-sheath cells.

In contrast, CAM (Crassulacean acid metabolism) plants are those in which carbon fixation and Calvin cycle are separated into time. The carbon is fixed during the night as it helps in reducing the loss of water through transpiration.

The Calvin cycle takes place during the day time in the same cell, that is, mesophyll cell.

In 1985 a biologist counted 750 pine trees in a 250 hectare forest. Using similar counting techniques, the biologist counted 1,2
Alisiya [41]

Answer:

Suppose that we have a given function f(x)

The average rate of change of the function between two values x₁ and x₂ is given by:

r = \frac{f(x_2) - f(x_1)}{x_2 - x_1}

a) We want to find the average (rate) of change on the size of population from 1985 to 1995.

We have that:

f(1985) = 750

f(1995) = 1500

Then we have:

r = \frac{1500 - 750}{1995 - 1985}  = 750/10 = 75

This means that the population of trees increases, in average, at a rate of 75 trees per year.

b) What is the density of trees each year that they were counted?

This will be equal to the quotient between the number of trees and the area.

1985: number of trees = 750 pines

         area = 250 ha

Then the density is:

D(1985) = (750 pines)/(250 ha) = 3 pines/ha

So 1985, there were 3 pines per hectare.

1990: number of trees = 1250 pines

         area = 250 ha

Then the density is:

D(1990) = (1250 pines)/(250 ha) = 5 pines/ha

1995: number of trees = 1500 pines

         area = 250 ha

The density is:

D(1995) = (1500 pines)/(250 ha) = 6 pines/ha

3) now we want to get the average change between 1985 and 1995 in the density, this will be:

r = \frac{D(1995) - D(1885)}{1995 - 1985}  = \frac{6 pines/ha - 3pines/ha}{10}  = 0.3 pines/ha

So, on average, each year the number of pines per hectare increases by 0.3

<span>The most important estrogen is estradiol and the most important androgen is testosterone.</span>
 Testosterone is the primary steroid male sex hormone. Its function is to control the development of male reproductive tissues, to promote secondary sexual characteristics to maintain health (the prevention of osteoporosis for example). It is synthesized from cholesterol and it achieves its effects by binding to androgen receptors on different tissues.

Which of the following is not an organic molecule?
steposvetlana [31]

Answer:

Ice is not an organic molecule.

Explanation:

Organic molecules are a specific type of molecule that contain at least one carbon atom that is attached to other atoms such as Hydrogen, oxygen.

              In the given question lipid,carbohydrate and nucleic contain carbon atoms that are linked together with Hydrogen atoms, oxygen atom and nitrogen atom as a result they can be categorized as organic molecule.

             on the other hand ice is the solid form of water(H2O) which itself is an inorganic molecule,from that point of view ice is not an organic molecule.
