The aspect of the psychodynamic theory that I think still has relevance today is metatheory.

The neo-Freudian theory that appeals to me is basic anxiety as theorized by Karen Horney. It appeals to me because the theory gave three options for someone suffering from basic anxiety which is moving towards others,  moving against others, and moving away from others.

Explanation:

Psychodynamic theory is an approach to psychology that studies the forces that control experience and how they could affect a person's early life. This approach placed too much importance on psychological factors while ignoring biological influence on a person's mental health.

neo-Freudians believe in the work of Sigmund Freud but deviate from his focus on the effects of sex to emphasize on social environment and culture.
