Answer:

It would cost ( 3xr/200) dollars  to three people to travel x miles.

Step-by-step explanation:

Here, according to the question:

The rate of the taxi fare = r cents per person per mile

The total number of people travelling = 3 friends

Each person travels x miles.

So, the total distance traveled by 3 friends

= 3  ( Distance traveled by 1 friend) = (3 x) miles

Now, as each mile costs r cents.

So, the cost of travelling (3 x) miles  = ( 3 x) (r)  cents   .... (1)

Also, 100 cents = $ 1

So,  1 cent = (1/100) dollars

⇒ r cents  = (r/100) dollars

So, the cost of travelling (3 x) miles  = ( 3xr/100) dollars  .... (2)

Now, If he gives them a 50% DISCOUNT.

Then the cost of travelling (3 x) miles  = ( 3xr/ 2 x 100) dollars

= ( 3xr/200) dollars

Hence,it would cost ( 3xr/200) dollars  to three people to travel x miles.

Does each function describe exponential growth or decay?
zhannawk [14.2K]

Hey Jinx :)

------------------------------------------------

Note that a decay has a rate between 0 and 1, and a growth as a rate of 1 or higher.

y = 1/2(1 + 0.03)^t → y = 1/2(1.03)^t (Rate is more then 0) GROWTH

y = 0.3(0.95)^t → (Rate is between 0 and 1) DECAY

y = ((1+0.03)^1/2)^2t → y = y = 1.014^2t (Rate is more then 0) GROWTH

y = 200(0.73)^t → (Rate is between 0 and 1) DECAY

y = 4(1/4)^t → (Rate is between 0 and 1) DECAY

If the sum of two positive numbers x and y is 3, then the absolute maximum of x^3+12xy is what?
vodka [1.7K]

Answer:

32 at x = 2

Step-by-step explanation:

If the sum of two positive numbers x and y is 3, then

x+y=3\Rightarrow y=3-x

and

x^3+12xy=x^3+12x(3-x)=x^3-12x^2+36x

To find the absolute maximum of the function

f(x)=x^3-12x^2+36x

find the derivative

f'(x)=3x^2-24x+36

and equate it to 0:

3x^2-24x+36=0\\ \\x^2-8x+12=0\\ \\D=(-8)^2-4\cdot 12=64-48=16\\ \\x_{1,2}=\dfrac{-(-8)\pm \sqrt{16}}{2\cdot 1}=\dfrac{8\pm 4}{2}=6,\ 2

For x - the function f(x) increases

For 2 - the function f(x) decreases

For x>6,\ f'(x)>0 - the function f(x) increases

So, x = 2 is maximum, x = 6 is minimum

The maximum value of x^3+12xy is

2^3+12\cdot 2\cdot (3-2)=8+24=32
