<u>ANSWER</u>

A. (4,12)

<u>EXPLANATION</u>

The equations are:

10x +2y = 64...(1)

and

3x - 4y = -36...(2)

To eliminate a variable we make the coefficients of that variable the same in both equations.

It is easier to eliminate x.

We multiply the first equation by 2 to get:

20x + 4y = 128...(3)

We add equations (2) and (3).

3x + 20x + 4y - 4y =  - 36 + 128

23x = 92

Divide both sides by 23

\frac{23x}{23}  =  \frac{92}{23}

x = 4

Put x=4 into equation (1).

10(4)+2y = 64

40+2y = 64

2y = 64 - 40

2y = 24

\frac{2y}{2}  =  \frac{24}{2}

y = 12

The solution is (4,12)

Three plus the sum of the squares of w and x is 32
Roman55 [17]
The statement is an equation which is written in text form or in words. when we write it as an equation it will be:
squares of w and x is equal to w² and x² so, their sum means they are going to add.
3 + (w² + x²) = 32
three plus the sum of w² and x² is 32.
when we describe or write quantity with an equal sign it makes an equation.

Cynthia Besch wants to buy a rug for a room
77julia77 [94]

The length and width of the rug is 20 and 11 feet respectively

The given parameters;

dimension of the room = 19 ft by 28 ft

maximum area of rug she can afford = 220 ft²

For a uniform stripe of floor around the rug, then suppose the uniform excess length of the floor to removed from each dimension = y

(28-2x)(19-2x)=220

532-94x+4x^2=220

4x^2-94x+312=0

x=39/2,4

For x=39/2, dimensions are negative.

The uniform dimension of the floor to be covered by the maximum area of rug she can afford = (28 - 4×2) and (19 -2×4 ) = 20 and 11

Thus, the dimensions of the rug should be 20 feet and 11 feet
