When you subtract you have to change the signs so it would be -3+4x2
then you combine like terms to get 3x2+2 i am assuming the 2"s mean squared

(-x^{2} +5)-(3-4 x^{2} )
To simplify this, use the FOIL method. First, Outer, Inner, Last.
First: Multiply the first numbers in each set of parentheses.
-x^{2} *-3=3 x^{2}
Outer: Multiply the two outermost numbers in the equation.
-x^{2} *-4 x^{2} =5 x^{4}
Inner: Multiply the two innermost numbers in the equation.
5*-3=-15
Last: Multiply the last numbers in each set of parentheses.
5*-4 x^{2} =-20 x^{2}
Then, we put them all together in an equation, from the highest exponent to the lowest, then highest prefix (number before the variable) to lowest.
5 x^{4} -20 x^{2} +3 x^{2} -15
And simplify.
5 x^{4} -17 x^{2} -15

How do I find x here?
sdas [7]
When lines cross each other in a triangle from a point to the mid point of the opposite side as shown, AV  is 2 times as long as VF

To solve for X we would have AV = 2*VF

The equation becomes:

3x+6 = 2(x+6)

Now we solve for X

3x+6 = 2(x+6)

Distribute the 2 on the right side:

3x + 6 = 2x +12

Subtract 2x from each side:

X +6 = 12

Subtract 6 from each side:

x = 6

 Now if you needed to solve the length of AV or VF, you replace x with 6 and solve.

The area of the right triangle shown is 24 square feet. Which equations can be used to find the lengths of the legs of the trian
Gwar [14]

The equations to calculate the legs are 0.5(x)(x + 2) = 24, x^2 + 2x - 48 = 0 and x^2 + (x + 2)^2 = 100

<h3>How to determine the legs of the triangle?</h3>

The complete question is in the attached image

The given parameters are:

Area = 24

Legs = x and x + 2

The area of the triangle is calculated as:

Area = 0.5 * Base * Height

This gives

0.5 * x * (x + 2) = 24

So, we have:

0.5(x)(x + 2) = 24

Divide through by 0.5

(x)(x + 2) = 48

Expand

x^2 + 2x = 48

Subtract 48 from both side

x^2 + 2x - 48 = 0

Hence, the equations to calculate the legs are 0.5(x)(x + 2) = 24, x^2 + 2x - 48 = 0 and x^2 + (x + 2)^2 = 100
