The name of the exam was called the "Six Second Exam." The thing that the doctors detected were: mental defects, disease or deformity, some definite disease, back problems, trauma, heart problems, pregnancy, eye disease
The doctos at Ellis Island developed a system to identify immigrants who needed medical attention. The first test was a "six-second physical," in which an uniformed doctod checked for signs of illness or contagious diseases.
This method allowed the doctos to detect diseases such as conjuntivitis, trachoma and hernias, and problems in different parts of the body such as neck, scalp, back, heart, face, eyes and lungs.
