The free energy obtained from the oxidation (reaction with oxygen) of glucose (C6H12O6) to form carbon dioxide and water can be

used to re-form ATP by driving the above reaction in reverse. Calculate the standard free energy change for the oxidation of glucose.

Answer:

The correct answer is -2878 kJ/mol.

Explanation:

The reaction that takes place at the time of the oxidation of glucose is,

C₆H₁₂O₆ (s) + 6O₂ (g) ⇒ 6CO₂ (g) + 6H₂O (l)

The standard free energy change for the oxidation of glucose can be determined by using the formula,

ΔG°rxn = ∑nΔG°f (products) - ∑nΔG°f (reactants)

The ΔG°f for glucose is -910.56 kJ/mol, for oxygen is 0 kJ/mol, for H2O -237.14 kJ/mol and for CO2 is -394.39 kJ/mol.

Therefore, ΔG°rxn = 6 (-237.14) + 6 (-394.39) - (-910.56)

ΔG°rxn = -2878 kJ/mol

-Dominant- [34]
A general formula of an acid always start with an hydronium ion or H+.  The general formula of an acid have to end with an anion. As acids, these compounds are named starting with the prefix "hydro-," then adding the first syllable of the anion, then the suffix "-ic."

A buffer solution contains 0.496 M KHCO3 and 0.340 M K2CO3. If 0.0585 moles of potassium hydroxide are added to 250. mL of this
aev [14]

Answer:

pH = 10.9

Explanation:

Hello there!

In this case, according to the given information, it turns out possible for us to say that the undergoing reaction between this buffer and OH⁻ promotes the formation of more CO₃²⁻ because it acts as the base, we can do the following:

n_{CO_3^{2-}}=0.34mol/L*0.250L+0.0585mol=0.1435mol\\\\n_{HCO_3^{-}}=0.34mol/L*0.250L-0.0585mol=0.0265mol

The resulting concentrations are:

[CO_3^{2-}]=\frac{0.1435mol}{0.25L}=0.574M \\

[HCO_3^{-}]=\frac{0.0265mol}{0.25L}=0.106M

Thus, since the pKa of this buffer system is 10.2, the change in the pH would be:

pH=10.2+log(\frac{0.574M}{0.106M} )\\\\pH=10.9

Which makes sense since basic OH⁻ ions were added.

Regards!
