Find the slope and y-intercept of the line that is

Mathematics

3 0

Remark

Perpendicular slopes are found by using the formula m1*m2 = - 1. That is followed by using the given point to determine the y intercept.

Solution

Step One

Find the slope of the new line

m1 = - 1/3

m2 = ??

m1 * m2 = - 1

(-1/3) * m2 = - 1

You could continue by changing (-1/3) to a decimal.

(-0.3333333333) * m2 = -1    Now divide by the decimal

m2 = - 1/ (-0.3333333333)

m2 = 3 which is what my calculator tells me the answer is.

Step Two

So far what you have is

y = 3x + b

Use the point (-3, -7) to get the y intercept.

-7 = 3(-3) + b

b - 9 = - 7

b = -7 + 9

b = 2

y = 3x + 2 Answer

Graph

The graph shown below is both lines plotted in desmos. The red line is y = 3x + 2 which is perpendicular to the given graph y = (-1/3)x +5 which is in blue.

The green dot is the point (-3 , - 7)

What do all members of the family of linear functions f(x)=1m(x+3) have in common?
dsp73
All linear functions have in common...
1. Their highest exponent is 1.
2. The graphs of the equations are lines.

When finding things in common between different types of functions, you always have to look at the two sides of math; geometry and algebra. Geometry is all the graphs, and algebra is the equations.

I hope this helps!

Find the perimeter of the polygon with the vertices G(2, 4), H(2,−3), J(−2,−3), and K(−2, 4).
Alenkinab [10]

Answer:

22 units

Step-by-step explanation:

Graphed to solve.

Width:

The distance between points K and G, and points J and H is both 4 units. So for both distances between the set of points will be 8 units total.

Length:

The distance between points G and H, and points J and K is both 7 units. So for both distances between the sets of points will be 14 units total.

14 + 8 = 22

Please answer both questions.
mario62 [17]

Answer:

1) (x-6)^2=49

2) C

Step-by-step explanation:

Subtract 12 x and you get

-x^2-12x+13=0

You will be left with, after making a perfect square

(x-6)^2=49

To get rid of the squared/2nd power, add plus or minus to the opposite side and square root both sides. You will be left with

x-6=plus or minus 7

Your answer comes out to the to problem. Setting both to 0, you get -13, and 1. -6 plus 7 is 1, and -6 plus a -7 is -13.

How can x2 = x2 + 2x + 9 be set up as a system of equations?
Andreas93 [3]
X2 = x2 + 2x + 9   Now subtract x2 from both sides and you have

x2- x2 = x2 - x2 + 2x + 9  or  0 = 2x + 9  now subtract 9 from both sides so you can solve for x.

0 -9 = 2x -9...and you have -9 = 2x

Now solve for x by dividing both sides by 2 and you arrive at x = -4.5
