Iraq.

In the 1980s, Iraq and Iran fought what is now known as the Iran-Iraq War. This war was largely fought due to Iraq's desire to become the dominant force in the Persian Gulf and for control over an oil rich region in Iran.

Ultimately, no side gained any territory during the war.

In the 1990s, Iraq would invade Kuwait, an oil rich country, and the United States and its allies repelled that invasion.

In the 2000s, the United States entered Iraq in what was known as "Operation Enduring Freedom" after reports that Iraq was developing nuclear weapons.

No nuclear weapons were found but Saddam Hussein was ultimately deposed as Iraq's leader and hanged.

Why was the Monroe Doctrine important to the United States during James Monroe’s presidency?
BARSIC [14]

The correct answer is A) the doctrine helped the US form a military base that kept European Nations at bay.

The Monroe Doctrine was important to the US during James Monroe's presidency because the doctrine helped the US form a military base that kept European Nations at bay.

During an annual Presidential speech, President James Monroe referred to this doctrine, a new form of foreign policy that stated that European nations should never intervene again in American issues. The message was clear, European nations were not to interfere in any country of the American continent. It also stated that the United States would remain neutral in any European conflict. The Monroe Doctrine was used on December 2, 1823, and it was a clear US statement against European colonization.
