According to the legend, Cain or in Hebrew, Qayin means ‘creature’ and creatures or monsters such as Grendel are of the same blood as Cain. Because of his state as an ogre, he feels anger, resentment and hate towards the human race because he feels that God blesses them unlike him. He especially has a strong dislike of the beautiful mead-hall, Heorot which Hrothgar built because it shows the light, joy and music that he cannot enjoy. Thus, he hates Hrothgar.
