Step-by-step explanation:

This is a word problem that we must translate to mathematical expression before we can solve.

let the individual saving be the first letters of the names

Jada= J

Lin= L

Elena= E

1. Jada saved $20 less than Lin

    J=L-20

2. Lin saved 3 times as much money as Elena

   L= 3E

3. Hence Elena saved

   E

Together they saved $120.

hence

(L-20)+3E+E= 120

L-20+3E+E= 120

collecting like terms we hav

L+4E=120+20

L+4E= 140

but we know that L= 3E

3E+4E= 140

7E= 140

divide both sides by 7 we have

E= 140/7

E= $20

This means Elena saves $70

also  L= 3E

L= 3*20

L= $60

this means that Lean saved $60

also  J=L-20

J= 60-20

J= $40

This means that Jada saved $40

How many solutions does the system of equations have? x - 3y = 15 and 3x - 9y=45
pantera1 [17]
For the answer to the question above asking how many solutions does the system of equations have? y - 6x = -3 and 4y - 24x = -16. The answer is y - 6x = -3 -6x + y = -3 6x - y = 3
 4y - 24x = -16 -24x + 4y = -16 24x - 4y = 16 reduces to 6x - y = 4
and this has no solutions

V-------------> total <span>vegetables in Priya's garden
T------------> total tomatoes </span>in Priya's garden

we know that
T=(2/5)V

Part A) <span>HOW many tomatoes are there I'd Priya's garden has.

1) </span><span>20 Vegetables?
</span>T=(2/5)*20----------> 20*2/5---------> 8 tomatoes
<span>the answer Part A1) is 8 tomatoes
</span>
2) x Vegetables?
T=(2/5)*x----------> x*2/5---------> (2/5)*x  ----------> 0.40*x tomatoes
the answer Part A2) is (0.40)*x  tomatoes

Part B) <span>Priya's garden has 6 tomatoes. How many total vegetables are there?

</span>T=(2/5)V-----------> V=5T/2--------> V=(5*6)/2--------> V=15 vegetables
