Answer:

Correct answer is C. The author is starting with a general topic and moving to more specific information

Explanation:

The author in this article <em>"One poor harvest away from chaos"</em> opens the topic of <em>general deficiency of food worldwide</em>. According to the article, the global food prices could rise because of <em>"shrinking supplies"</em>.

The mentioned paragraph starts from that general idea that the food prices could rise, and support the claim that it could be generally very bad for the world population, by adding additional information about the increase of various costs of oil, commodities, etc.

Alcohol use, for either the driver or the pedestrian, was reported in almost __________ of all traffic crashes involving pedestr
Verdich [7]

If we study the yearly reports on accidents that took place in the USA, the common percentage that is displayed every year rounds about a thirty percent of the total accidents. However, there is always a slight shift of 0.2 to 2.0 percent for the same, every year. So it is almost clear that 30% of the total accidents (in a year) occur due to alcohol.

Therefore, the blank must be filled with the word that is mentioned in bold and is underlined:

Alcohol use, .... pedestrian, was ..... almost <u>one-third </u>of all ... crashes involving ... fatalities.

In my opinion, this is the best-suited answer without any options provided.

How did the world war 1 influence on modernist writing
katrin [286]
Well for one, they start seeing things in a different point of view, and this possibly led to writers finding a narrative that suits that. So Modernist writers like, lets say Virginia Woolf's style, is mostly free indirect discourse. Like, the inner thoughts become more important. So I'd say it influences the narrative.
