The Whig Party was formed in 1834 under the hand of Henry Clay and was one of the two major parties during the 1930s and 1940s. The party started as an opposition to the political ideas of President Andrew Jackson. Other members that were part of the party were Truman Smith, Daniel Webster, and William Seward.

The party was dissolved in 1860.
