Answer:

(a) ion-dipole

(b) hydrogen bond

(c) dipole-induced dipole

Explanation:

What is the strongest type of intermolecular force between (imf) solute and solvent in each solution?

(a) CsCl(s) in H₂O(l)

CsCl is a salt that dissociates in the ions Cs⁺ and Cl⁻. H₂O is a polar molecule. Then, the imf is ion-dipole.

(b) CH₃-CO-CH₃(l) (acetone) in H₂O(l)

Acetone is partially polar and H₂O is very polar. The electronegative O in acetone can interact with the H with a positive charge density of water. The resulting imf is hydrogen bond.

(c) CH₃OH(l) in CCl₄(l)

CH₃OH is polar and CCl₄ is nonpolar. CH₃OH will induce a dipole in CCl₄ and the resulting imf is dipole-induced dipole.

How many grams of carbon dioxide are produced from the combustion of 1.3 moles of acetylene
Karo-lina-s [1.5K]
Complete combustion of acetylene generated carbon dioxide and water. This can be represent by following reaction

2C2H2   +    5O2     →      4CO2     +     2H2O
(2 mole)                            (4 mole)

From the above balanced reaction, it can be seen that 2 mole of acetylene on complete combustion generates 4 moles of carbon dioxide
i.e. 2 mole of C2H2 ≡ 4 mole of CO2
∴ 1.3 mole of C2H2 ≡ (4 X 1.3)/2 = 2.6 mole of CO2

Now, 1 mole of CO2 = 44 g
∴ 2.6 mole of CO2 = (44 X 2.6) = 114.4 g

Thus, 114.4 grams of carbon dioxide are produced from the combustion of 1.3 moles of acetylene

Potassium chloride (KCl) is sometimes used to treat low blood potassium levels. Calculate the concentration of a saturated solut
brilliants [131]
Molarity is the most convenient way to express concentration.

Mathematically, molarity is expressed as \frac{\text{mass of solute(g)}}{\text{gram molecular weight X Volume of solution (l)}}

In present case,
mass of solute (KCl) = 36 g
molecular weight of KCl = 74.55 g/mol
volume of solution = 100 ml = 0.1 l

∴ Molarity = \frac{36}{74.55X0.1}
                 = 4.829 M
Thus, conc. of saturated KCl at 20 oC is 4.829 M
