Cold packs are used to treat minor injuries. Some cold packs contain NH4NO3(s) and a small packet of water at room temperature b

efore activation. To activate this type of cold pack, the small packet must be broken to mix the water and NH4NO3(s). The temperature of this mixture decreases to approximately 2°C and remains at this temperature for 10 to 15 minutes.
Identify both types of bonds in the NH4NO3(s).

All the information provided at the begining is supposed to help? or is it just trivia?
NH4NO3 has ionic bond (because NH4+ and NO3- are in fact ions that pull each other towards) and a bunch of covalent bonds between each atom in the ions.

I believe this is a double replacement. As you can see none of the chemical symbols are missing, there just "replaced".

The half-life of tritium, or hydrogen-3, is 12.32 years. After about 24.6 years, how much of a sample of tritium will remain unc
scoundrel [369]

Answer: The correct option is B.

Explanation: This is an example of radioactive decay and all the radioactive decay processes follow First order of kinetics.

Expression for the half life of first order kinetics is:

t_{1/2}=\frac{0.693}{k}

We are given:

t_{1/2}=12.32years

Putting in above equation, we get:

12.32=\frac{0.693}{k}\\k=0.05625year^{-1}

Expression to calculate the amount of sample which is unchanged is:

N=N_oe^{-kt}

where,

N = Amount left after time t

N_o = Initial amount

k = Rate constant

t = time period

Putting value of k = 0.05625 and t = 24.6 in above equation, we get:

N=N_oe^{-0.05625\times 24.6}

\frac{N}{N_o}=0.25

The above fraction is the amount of sample unchanged and that is equal to \frac{1}{4}

Hence, the correct option is B.

Through what basic mechanism is 2-methylcyclohexanol converted to 1-bromo-1-methylcyclohexane when treated with HBr
evablogger [386]

Answer:

Sn1 mechanism reaction

Explanation:

In this case, we have to start with the <u>protonation</u> of the "OH" group by the attack of the lone pairs in the alcohol group to the "H" in the HBr producing a <u>positive charge in the oxygen</u>. Then, water is produced and a <u>carbocation</u> is generated. This carbocation can be stabilized by a <u>hydride shift</u>. We can move a hydrogen atom to the positive charge and we will obtain a <u>tertiary carbocation</u>. Finally, the Br^- will attack to produce the final <u>halide</u>.

See figure 1.

I hope it helps!
