How many solutions are there to the equation y = 14x – 9? Explain your answer. A. There are no solutions because no value can be

used for the variable x for the equation to remain true. B. There is one solution because only one value can be used for the variable x for the equation to remain true. C. There are 2 solutions because only 2 values can be used for the variables for the equation to remain true. D. There are an infinite number of solutions because any value can be used for the variable x and the equation would remain true.

There are an infinite number of solutions.  Any value can be used
for the variable 'x'.  Each one produces a value for 'y', and together,
they make a true equation.

When this equation is drawn on a graph, the graph is a straight line
with no end in either direction.  EVERY POINT on the line is a solution
to the equation ... a pair of numbers for 'x' and 'y' ... and you know how
many points there are on a line, don't you ?

Jerome is going to draw a marble from the bag shown below, replace it, and then draw another marble. What is the probability tha
alexira [117]
Marbles in a bag: 3 green, 4 yellow, 5 blue, 8 pink.

Event A - get a green or yellow marble
Event B - get a pink marble

Events A and B are independent because we draw a marble from a bag with 20 marbles in both cases.
P(A)= \frac{3+4}{3+4+5+8}= \frac{7}{20}
\\P(B)= \frac{8}{3+4+5+8}= \frac{8}{20} = \frac{2}{5}

Probability of combined events is
P(A) \times P(B)=\frac{7}{20} \times \frac{2}{5} =\frac{7}{50}

What is the solution to this system of equations? 3x + y = 17 x + 2y = 49 A. It has no solution. B. It has infinite solutions. C
kari74 [83]

Answer:

Choice D

Step-by-step explanation:

Several techniques do exist for solving systems of linear equations; substitution method, graphical method and elimination method. For this scenario, since we are not restricted on the method, I opted to use the graphical technique.

The graphical solution to a system of linear equations is the point where the lines intersect. If the lines are never intersect then the system has no solution.

The attachment below shows that the system intersects at the point (-3, 26). Therefore, the system has a single solution: x = -3, y = 26.
