Answer:

Number of 7 inch plate = 8

Number of 12 inch plate = 7

Step-by-step explanation:

There are 15 plates in a kitchen cabinet. The diameter of each plate is either 7in or 12in. The diameter of all 15 plates combined is 140in. Which system of equations can be used to find the number of 7in plates, x , and the number of 12in plates, y , that are in the cabinet?

Given that :

Total Number of plates = 15

Diameter of each plate : 7 in or 12 in

Diameter of all 15 plates = 140 in

Let number of 7 in and 12 in diameter plates = x and y respectively ;

x + y = 15 - - (1)

7x + 12y = 140 - - - (2)

x = 15 - y

Substitute x = 15 - y in (2)

7(15 - y) + 12y = 140

105 - 7y + 12y = 140

105 + 5y = 140

5y = 140 - 105

5y = 35

y = 7

From x = 15 - y

x = 15 - 7

x = 8

Number of 7 inch plate = 8

Number of 12 inch plate = 7

Need help with number 1 and explain
dexar [7]

Answer:

0

Step-by-step explanation:

If the answer is between 0 to 0.49, the best estimate is 0.

If the answer is between 0.5-1.49, the best estimate is 1.

If the answer is 1.5 or greater, the best estimate is 2.

Without giving the fractions 1/10 and 1/12 a common denominator, we know the answer is between 2/12 and 2/10.

2/12 is less than 2/10. 2/10 is 0.2, which is less than 0.5.

Since the final answer is less than 0.5, the best estimate is 0.

The half-life of Carbon 14 (C-14) is 5230 years. Determine the decay-rate pa-rameterλfor C-14.
Lady bird [3.3K]

Answer:

λ = 1.3252 x 10⁻⁴

Step-by-step explanation:

Since we are already given the half-life, the decay expression can be simplified as:

N(t) = N_0*e^{-\lambda t}\\\frac{N(half-life)}{N_0}=0.5

For a half-life of t =5230 years:

0.5 = e^{(-\lambda t)} \\ln(0.5) = -\lambda * 5230\\\lambda = 1.3252*10^{-4}

The decay-rate parameter λ for C-14 is 1.3252 x 10⁻⁴
