9.  Force = mass * acceleration.

F = ma

(8) = (1)a

8m/s^2 = a

10.  First solve for the kinetic energy of the vehicle:

Kinetic energy = (1/2)mass * velocity^2

KE = (1/2)(1200)(2)^2

KE = 2400J

Now use this value in the equation for work:

Since the car comes to a halt, the work is equal to the kinetic energy.

Work = Force * Displacement

W = Fd

(2400) = F(0.15)  Remember to convert cm to m

1.6*10^4 N = F

9.

The 1N = 1kg * 1 m/s^2 has no influence on the answer.

F = 8 N

m = 1 kg

a = ??

F = m * a

8N = 1 kg * a

8N/1kg = a

a = 8 m/s^2

10

This is the beginning of a 2 step process. You are back to the basic 4 equations to find the acceleration. Then you can use F = ma

Givens

m = 1200 kg

vi = 2m/s

vf = 0

d = 15 cm = 0.15 m

Formula

F = m*a

vf^2 = vi^2 + 2 * a * d

0 = 2^2 + 2 * a * 0.15,

0 = 4 + 0.3 * a

- 4 = 0.3 * a

- 4 / 0.3 = a

- 13.3333333 = a

F = m * a

F = 1200 * (- 13.3333333)

F = - 16000 N

Comment (Extremely Important)

Why aren't any of the answers minus? It is because the minus represents the amount of force needed to stop the vehicle. But the question asks you about the rock. What is the rock experiencing? The rock is opposing the 0.15 m so the force it offers is in the opposite direction to that exerted by the vehicle.

You're driving down the highway late one night at 21 m/s when a deer steps onto the road 35 m in front of you. Your reaction tim
andreev551 [17]

Speed with which initially car is moving is 21 m/s

Reaction time = 0.50 s

distance traveled in the reaction time d = v t

d = 21 * 0.50 = 10.5 m

deceleration after this time = -10 m/s^2

now the distance traveled by the car after applying bakes

v_f^2 - v_i^2 = 2a d

0 - 21^2 = 2(-10)d

d = 22.05 m

so total distance moved before it stop

d = 22.05 + 10.5 = 32.55 m

so the distance from deer is 35 - 32.55 = 2.45 m

now to find the maximum speed with we can move we will assume that we will just touch the deer when we stop

so our distance after brakes are applied is d = 35 - 10.5 = 24.5 m

again by kinematics

v_f^2 - v_i^2 = 2 ad

0 - v^2 = 2(-10)(24.5)

v = 22.1 m/s

so maximum speed would be 22.1 m/s

The part of the ear where sound wave compressions and rarefactions cause the eardrum to vibrate is the middle ear. The 8th nerve in the inner ear actually converts the mechanical energy to electrical energy for transmitting to the brain. A membrane called the tympanic membrane separates the middle ear from the outer ear. Whenever a sound reaches the ear, it creates a sound wave that creates vibration in the eardrum. The pressure when high pushes the membrane inwards while low pressure sound waves helps the eardrum to come outwards.
