9.  Force = mass * acceleration.

F = ma

(8) = (1)a

8m/s^2 = a

10.  First solve for the kinetic energy of the vehicle:

Kinetic energy = (1/2)mass * velocity^2

KE = (1/2)(1200)(2)^2

KE = 2400J

Now use this value in the equation for work:

Since the car comes to a halt, the work is equal to the kinetic energy.

Work = Force * Displacement

W = Fd

(2400) = F(0.15)  Remember to convert cm to m

1.6*10^4 N = F

9.

The 1N = 1kg * 1 m/s^2 has no influence on the answer.

F = 8 N

m = 1 kg

a = ??

F = m * a

8N = 1 kg * a

8N/1kg = a

a = 8 m/s^2

10

This is the beginning of a 2 step process. You are back to the basic 4 equations to find the acceleration. Then you can use F = ma

Givens

m = 1200 kg

vi = 2m/s

vf = 0

d = 15 cm = 0.15 m

Formula

F = m*a

vf^2 = vi^2 + 2 * a * d

0 = 2^2 + 2 * a * 0.15,

0 = 4 + 0.3 * a

- 4 = 0.3 * a

- 4 / 0.3 = a

- 13.3333333 = a

F = m * a

F = 1200 * (- 13.3333333)

F = - 16000 N

Comment (Extremely Important)

Why aren't any of the answers minus? It is because the minus represents the amount of force needed to stop the vehicle. But the question asks you about the rock. What is the rock experiencing? The rock is opposing the 0.15 m so the force it offers is in the opposite direction to that exerted by the vehicle.

A boat takes off from the dock at 2.5m/s and speeds up at 4.2m/s2 for 6.0 seconds how far has the boat traveled
suter [353]

Answer:

The answer is "91 m"

Explanation:

v_0 = 2.5 \ \frac{m}{s}\\\\a = 4.2\ \frac{m}{s^2}\\\\t = 6.0\ s\\\\\Delta x=?

Using formula:

\Delta x = v_0 t +\frac{1}{2} at^2\\\\

      = 2.5 \times 6.0  +\frac{1}{2}  \times  4.2 \times 6.0^2\\\\= 90.6\  m \approx 91\ m

What happens when a sound wave passes from water to air?
s344n2d4d5 [400]
It slows down. The molecules/particles aren't as close together, resulting in slower movement.

A brick is dropped (zero initial speed) from the roof of a building. The brick strikes the ground in 1.90 s. You may ignore air
kozerog [31]

Answer:

h=17m

v=18.6 m/s

Explanation: The question can be solved by applying kinematic equations of motion

Data

u=0

a=g

t=1.9 secs

firstly to calculate the height

s=ut+0.5at^2\\h=ut+0.5at^2\\h=0*1.9+0.5*9.81*1.9^2\\h=17.707 m

to find the final velocity

v=u+at\\v=0+9.81*1.9\\v=18.639

The acceleration graph is straight line of equation y=9.8 as acceleration is constant:

Velocity graph is given by y=9.8x ( y as velocity and x as time):

Displacement graph is given by y=4.9x^2 ( x as time, y as displacement):

These graphs are only applicable from x=0 to x=1.9 ... ignore the other graph sections
