So there are 14 books in total you want to do some simple math...

You are given that 8 of the books are new so the rest should be used and you need to figure out the used books so you need to subtract 8 used books from the total amount of books (14)

14-8 =6

So you can safely assume 6 books are used

Now a ratio is one to one so used books to new books

Used books : new books

6 : 8

Now if your told yo simplify then it’s just like simplifying a fraction to get

3 : 4

And now for used books to all books

Used books : all books

6 : 14

Simplified

3 : 7

Vladimir79 [104]

Answer:

Her original amount of money can be represented by the variable x

Because we are spending one-fourth of her money, and “of” translate to multiply, we can write 1/4(x), or equivalently we can say 0.25x of her money, if you prefer decimal.

When you say 1/2 of it, this refers to the original amount of money, x, unless the problem wants you to figure how much 1/2 of the remaining amount is. So if the problem is directly asking for 1/2 of it, that would’ve half of x, or 0.5x in decimal.

Remaining was 50 pence, so the original amount minus 1/4 of the amount minus 1/2 the amount equals 50 pence or .50 giving us the equation: x-0.25x-0.5x=.50

Combine like terms on the left, and we have 0.25x=0.50.

Divide by 0.25 on both sides.

We have x equals 2.

So she started with $2. To check this, we ask ourselves does having $2, and spending 1/4 of it and spending 1/2 of it, then result to 50 pence?

Yes it does, because 2–1–0.5 does in fact equal 0.50 (50pence)

A Right Cylinder has a radius of 3 cm and a height of 5 cm.
Shtirlitz [24]

Answer:

V = 141.37 cm³

Surface area = 150.80 cm²

i. Doubling the radius to 6 cm, while the height remains 5

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that :

Radius, r = 3cm

Height, h = 5cm

Volume , V of right cylinder :

V = πr²h

V = π * 3² * 5

V = 141.37166

V = 141.37 cm³

Surface Area :

2πr(h + r)

2 * π * 3(3 +5)

18.849555(8)

150.79644

= 150.80 cm²

Volume at r = 6 ; h = 5

V = π * 6² * 5

V = 565.48667 cm³

Volume at r = 3 ; h = 15

V = π * 3² * 15

V = 424.11500 cm³

To increase volume,
