Extensive property is that which depends on the amount of matter in a sample. For example: mass, volume, size  are all extensive properties

Intensive properties are independent of the amount of matter. These include; boiling point, melting point, color and so on.

In the given examples:

Both sample A and B have the same volume (1000 ml) i.e. the same extensive property. However, they have different freezing points i.e. different intensive property.

Ans: D) The two substances are not the same because their intensive property is different.

The statement that best supports whether the two samples are of the same substance or not is as follows:

\boxed{{\text{D}}{\text{. The two substances are not the same because their intensive property is different}}}

Further explanation:

The property is the characteristic of any substance that makes it different from the other substances. It can be used either for the identification of unknown substances or for separation from other substances.

Classification of properties:

1. Intensive properties

These depend on the nature of the substance and not on the size of the system. The value of such properties remains unaffected on the further division of systems into subsystems. Some examples of intensive properties are temperature, melting point, freezing point, boiling point, concentration, pressure, and density.

2. Extensive properties

These depend on the amount of the substance. These properties are additive in nature if the given system is divided into several subsystems. Examples of extensive properties are mass, enthalpy, volume, energy, size, weight, and length.

The first unknown sample has a volume of 1000 mL and its freezing point is 0\;^\circ {\text{C}}. The second sample has a volume of 1000 mL and its freezing point is - 95^\circ {\text{C}}. It indicates the volumes of both substances are the same but their freezing points are quite different from each other. Since freezing point is an intensive property, it is clear that both the substances are not same because of different values of their intensive properties. Therefore option D is the correct answer.

Which compound contains a triple bond?
Masteriza [31]

Answer: C2H2

Explanation: Because each of the lines represent one bond, and because there are three lines (bonds) between the carbons, it means that they are bonded by three bonds, also known as a triple bond.
