Biology

Answer:

The two important conditions that must be met before gram staining are-

1. The age of the culture should not exceed 24 hours.

2. Over heating, decolonization should be avoided.

Explanation:

Gram staining is a technique developed to distinguish the bacteria on the basis of the composition of the cell wall around the bacteria.

The gram stain is a sensitive technique so must be performed carefully.  The precautions should be taken to avoid any error while gram staining that is-

1. Age of the culture- The culture should be freshly prepared just 18-24 hours before the experiment as above 24 hours bacteria lose their ability to retain the color so one would not be able to differentiate between the cultures.

2. While performing the experiment one should avoid overheating and decolorization with ethanol as both the factors lead to the loss of crystal violet stain from the cell and they take pinkish color after safranin staying.

Oil is most likely to form becauseChoose one:
Luden [163]

B. tiny algae and plankton decomposed under conditions of heat, pressure, and low oxygen.

Explanation:

Oil is most likely to form where tiny algae and plankton decomposed under conditions of heat, pressure and low oxygen.

Coal will form when plant materials like twigs, leaves and tree trunks decomposed under conditions of heat, pressure and low oxygen.

  • To form oil, algae and plankton will be gathered with sediments in a basin.
  • Rapid burial causes the algae and plankton to be cut off from aerobic environment that would lead to the decay of these organisms.
  • They are buried alive and as the basin subsides, temperature and pressure acts to produce kerogen.
  • Further cracking produces oil and gas.

Order the steps through which ATP synthesis occurs during the light-dependent reactions of photosynthesis in plants. Hydrogen io
Colt1911 [192]

Answer:

Light-dependent reaction of the photosynthesis takes place in the thyllakoid membrane of the chloroplast. It converts solar energy into the chemical energy (ATP and NADPH) which is then utilized in the light-independent reaction to fix carbon into glucose or food.

The correct order of events that take place during light-dependent reaction would be:

Energy from the Sun ejects electrons from chlorophyll and splits water molecules to yield hydrogen ions.

                                                         ↓

Electrons move down the electron transport chain, releasing energy that pumps hydrogen ions into the thylakoid space.

                                                         ↓

The concentration of hydrogen ions in the thylakoid space increases.

                                                         ↓

Hydrogen ions diffuse across the thylakoid membrane into the stroma through ATP synthase.

                                                         ↓

ATP synthase uses the energy released as hydrogen ions move from regions of high concentration to regions of low concentration to make ATP.

Contracts Slowly Striated Voluntary
JulsSmile [24]

Student 1 Smooth Cardiac Skeletal Skeletal

Explanation:

Skeletal muscles are voluntary muscles which contract fast through the strong forces in between its fibers to facilitate the movements of hands, legs, and other bones in the body. The cross striations are due to actin and myosin arranged along the axis of the cell.

Cardiac muscles are involuntary muscles in the heart walls. The contractions are slow with the force being spread along its branched structure so as to facilitate controlled pumping of blood from the heart.  Cardiac muscles are partially striated and are branched since actin and myosin are arranged on the cell axis.

Smooth muscles are are involuntary muscles found lining the blood vessels, viscera, skin etc. They aid in visceral content movements, changes the tone of blood vessels, airways according to their diameter. There are no striations because actin and myosin are arranged randomly. Their contractions are very slow due to weak forces.
