Points A, B, and C, form a triangle. The distance between point A and point B is 15 yards. The distance between point B and poin

t C is 25 yards. Pete walks directly from point A to point C, without passing through point B. What is the direct distance from A to C? How far would Pete walk if he went from A to B to C? yards The direct distance from A to C is more than 40 yards. The inequality w < represents the distance, w, that Pete might save by taking the direct path.

Answer: The answer is less than 40 yards.

Step-by-step explanation: Given that the points A, B and C forms a triangle as shown in the attached figure, where AB = 15 yards and BC = 25 yards.

Now, Pete walk directly from point A to point C rather than walking from A to B and then from B to C.

Total distance that Pete covers if he walks from A to B and then from B to C

= 15 + 25

=40 yards.

Since he walks directly from A to C and ABC forms a triangle, so from triangular inequality, we have

AB + BC > AC

i.e., AC < 40 yards.

So, if Pete takes the way direct from A to C, then the distance covered by him will be less than 40 yards. And if if he walks from A to B and the from B to C, the he will have to cover total distance of 40 yards.

Thus, the direct way from A to C will be more convenient foe him as he will have to cover less distance.

Bumek [7]

The second description is not suitable.

It should be "simplify the terms" sice you are just adding 36 and -20.

Consider the given expression,

3\mleft(9u+12\mright)-16=20

Apply the distributive property,

\begin{gathered} 3(9u)+3(12)-16=20 \\ 27u+36-16=20 \end{gathered}

Combine like terms,

27u+20=20

Subtract 20 from both sides,

27u=0

Divide both sides by 27,

u=0

Answer: 27 degrees

Step-by-step explanation:

y is 63 degrees because they are alternate interior angles. Then, 90-63=27 which is the answer.

Andrei [34K]

Given:

Karen earns $54.60 for working 6 hours.

Amount she earns varies directly with the  number of hours she works.

She need to work to earn an  additional $260.

To find:

Number of hours she need to work to earn an  additional $260.

Solution:

Let the amount of earnings be A and number of hours be t.

According to question,

A\propto t

A=kt     ...(i)

where, k is constant of proportionality.

Karen earns $54.60 for working 6 hours.

54.60=k(6)

Divide both sides by 6.

\dfrac{54.60}{6}=k

9.1=k

Put k=9.1 in (i).

A=9.1t

Substitute A=260 in the above equation.

260=9.1t

Divide both sides by 9.1.

\dfrac{260}{9.1}=t

28.5714=t

t\approx 29

Therefore, she need to work extra about 29 hours to earn an  additional $260.
